Tangent Computer, Inc., the largest manufacturer of computer systems selling directly to educational institutions and state and local governments, today announced that the company was the 2001 recipient of the Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) Crystal Wafer Award, a recognition for outstanding performance by an AMD partner. The honor is bestowed annually for bottom line results through effective positioning and marketing of AMD processor-based products.
According to Wm. Lee Little, director, field marketing-Americas for AMD, "AMD is delighted with the acceptance of Tangent computers powered by AMD processors in the public market. Employing AMD Athlon and AMD Duron processors, Tangent and AMD have teamed up to offer superior computing performance for educators as well as state and local agencies."
Tangent introduced AMD Athlon and AMD Duron processor-based systems in February. Mike Zabaneh, Tangent’s chief operating officer, was candid in stating, "Initially there was no way to predict the acceptance of Tangent’s AMD processor-based systems in our market space, but the results have exceeded expectations. Introductory high performance and medium range AMD processor-based systems were accepted virtually immediately. Excellent performance reviews in leading computer publications helped." "Our customers buy value and that’s what we offered. It worked," Mike added.
In addition to AMD processor-based desktops and notebooks, the company also markets Intel® processor-based desktop, notebook, and server computers. Since 1989, Tangent has engineered industrial strength technology solutions that now include computers, peripherals, network installation, mobile wireless classrooms, remote management services, and thin client networks. Mobile classrooms bring the benefits of technology to more students; the same mobile solution can be used in as many as ten or more classrooms. Tangent thin client networks offer a very affordable, trouble-free solution that’s easy to install and low cost to maintain. And Tangent Network Alert remote management services offer network expertise for environments without the expert, including troubleshooting, security, and Active Directory management.
